Indigent Family by 18-year old Rembert Quimada reflects his experience growing up in Toledo, Cebu.

The ongoing pandemic has caused  untold hardships among non-essential workers who are not employed in the medical field or in food delivery. The economic pressure is felt even more by independent fine artists whose works may be classified as “luxury” or not essential in the immediate foreseeable future.

EagleCharities.org is a new online gallery of Philippine contemporary realist artists, sculptors and modern abstract painters. It is a support platform for artists in this time of “new normal,” set up by New York based non-profit, Eagle Eye Charities Inc., registered under Internal Revenue Code section 501(c ) (3) allowing tax-deductible donations.

Reflection by Renulo Pautan

The first Virtual Art Exhibit opening will be held on Zoom video live streaming on company Facebook page @Eagle Charities Inc Online Gallery, next Saturday, Fourth of July commemorating Filipino-American Friendship Day, 9:00pm-11:00 p.m. (evening) Manila time, or 9:00am-11:00 a.m. ET (morning) New York time.

To bolster the waning enthusiasm of artists currently sheltering in place, a juried competition is ongoing, with 26 realist and modern artists, curated by notable masters in their field, including Renato “Ato” Habulan, Jr, Nemi Miranda and Florentino “Jun” Impas. Results will be announced on the Fourth of July.

Birds in the City series by Reynan Dingal garnered top votes in the People’s Choice Poll, while Renulo Pautan’s Reflection of a Girl, came in second.

Vying for the top contemporary realism category are multi-awarded artists Darby Alcoseba, Ruel Amistad, Pat Abellon, Crispin Bobier, Ariel Caratao, Jerome Castillo, Jerson Calo, Jess Dinglasa, Rainer Duhaylungsod, Maria Francisca Juarez, Renulo Pautan, Randy Plarisan, Rembert Quimada. Romar Quimada, Lucas Ranola, Angie Ypon Garbo and Daniel Yu

Contending for the modern art category are some freelance art instructors: Carlmel Belda, Ramel Castillo, Eugie Varona Dela Cruz, Reynan Dingal, Jes Evangelista, Lucenara, Jean Govinda Marquesto, Melver Mercado, Sam Penaso and Jan Elaine Soriano. A People’s Choice contest ran on Facebook for a week, and the results are out with a 160+ lead for Reynan Dingal’s Birds in the City cockfighting  series.

A motivational video lecture was started with a mentoring talk, “Finding your Voice,” by Masters Manny Garibay and Orley Ypon, upon the invitation of organizing artist Carol Tanjutco, followed by mental health discussion by Dr. Romulo Aromin Jr. A youtube playback of Master mentoring is captured at https://youtu.be/ZODgCOCRK-0

More information on activities can be found at EagleCharities.org where artists can sign up for free membership. Silent auctions are ongoing, for artists’ clearance sale, as displayed on the website. Proceeds will go directly to artists and will partially fund art outreach projects for IPs and Mangyan tribes.
