United States Ambassador to the Philippines Sung Kim on Tuesday joined the chorus calling for accountability in the killing of 17-year-old Kian Loyd delos Santos during a drug operation in Caloocan City last week.
In a tweet, Kim extended his condolences to the family and friends of delos Santos.
“My condolences go out to the family and friends of Kian. Hope that the investigations lead to full accountability,” Kim said.
The death of Delos Santos sparked outrage over the weekend as the public called on the President to stop his bloody war on drugs.
Some 1,500 protesters gathered at Edsa People Power Monument on Monday night to demand justice for Kian delos Santos and all those killed in police anti-drug raids.
The US is one of the fiercest critics of Duterte’s drug war that claimed thousands of lives in a year.
Duterte has repeatedly slammed the US for its critical stance on his policies and vowed to pursue a foreign policy that is independent from the Western superpower.
